Andrew McDonnell is a London-based composer and sound artist.
His work spans fashion, advertising, film, ballet, opera and television.
Collaborators include Gucci, CHANEL, Dior, Ferragamo, Valentino, Versace, Burberry, The Pacific Northwest Ballet, Hermès, and the New York Times, working with notable photographers and directors including Mario Sorenti, Charlotte Wales, Tim Walker, Jack Davison, Jacob Sutton and more. He has also recently scored a documentary for BBC 1 following the artist Cornelia Parker (dir. Charlie Melville).
Andrew operates as an artist-led practice, combining formal training , decades of performance and studio experience, and an intuitive understanding of sonic language and the language we use around music, offering clients and collaborators flexible, bespoke compositions tailored to each project’s visual and conceptual world.
Alongside fashion, Andrew maintains a deep connection to contemporary art and performance. He has created work with Anthea Hamilton and Martin Creed, contributing music and sound to major international gallery and installation projects.
His experience also spans experimental and classical performance. Andrew collaborated with the late Scott Walker, contributing to both ballet compositions at the Royal Opera House and his album work—formative experiences that continue to shape his ear and his approach to the interplay between sound design and score.
Andrew’s work is guided by experience, curiosity, and a sensitivity to texture and tone—music that deepens rather than dominates image. Across advertising, film, and performance, he combines scoring, sound design, and mixing, balancing innovation with a considered, deeply informed sensibility to ensure each project has depth, nuance, and creative possibilities.
